The House of the Lord is a sacred place of worship and inspires a decorum demonstrating prayerful reverence and grace in speech and behavior. The church, as the House of the Lord, must also be well-maintained and respected.
Recommendations for proper church decorum are outlined below. All parishioners and visitors of the Cathedral are expected to observe these guidelines.
Be on time. Mass begins promptly at the scheduled times. Plan on arriving at least 10 minutes in advance to avoid any disruption to the service.
Don’t forget the kids. Children must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times.
Drinks, food and snacks. With the exception of water, no drinks, food or snacks (including gum) are permitted in the Cathedral.
Nothing like a natural high. Avoid the consumption of alcoholic beverages or illegal substances before Mass. It is inappropriate and can lead to improper conduct that is not acceptable in the Cathedral. Additionally, anyone found with alcoholic beverages or illegal substances will be asked to leave the premises.
The Sanctuary. At no time is anyone permitted into the sanctuary before, during, or after Mass.
Turn it off. All cell phones, pagers, and other electronic devices must be turned off or muted prior to entering the Cathedral.
Wear your Sunday best. Modest church and/or professional attire is required. The Cathedral respectfully requests that you refrain from wearing sports caps, t-shirts, clothing with inappropriate logos, revealing or provocative clothing, shorts, and flip-flops. We encourage your to stand in the presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist with respect, integrity, and grace.
